Teachable Pricing and Review (2026): Plans, Fees, and Is It Worth It?

Teachable’s 2026 plans, the fees on top, and what each plan really costs at $1,000, $5,000 and $20,000 a month in sales.

Teachable Pricing and Review (2026): Plans, Fees, and Is It Worth It?

Teachable makes it easy to design and sell online courses and coaching services. Fast onboarding and an intuitive drag-and-drop builder mean even beginners can quickly set up their store, but users may be frustrated by limited customization.

You choose from three paid plans: Starter, Builder and Growth that cost $39, $89, and $189 per month when billed monthly, or $29, $69, and $139 per month with annual billing. The Custom plan is designed for large businesses.

Repeated updates to its plans have increased what creators pay for a subscription, and how much of their sales revenue Teachable keeps. These include the elimination of the popular Teachable free plan and a 7.5% transaction fee on its entry-level plan, previously just 5%. Builder and Growth have no additional transaction fee when you use Teachable Payments.

New usage limits also cap the number of courses, coaching services, and digital products you can offer, and how many integrations you can add to expand Teachable's native capabilities.

The changes have made it harder to decide if Teachable offers good value.

Teachable pricing at a glance

Teachable overhauled its plans and pricing in June 2025, retiring its Basic, Pro and Pro+ plans. The pricing page now shows three plans, Starter, Builder and Growth, plus a Custom plan for large companies and corporate learning programs (contact sales for a quote). A fourth plan, Advanced, doesn’t appear on the pricing page. Teachable’s help center lists it at $399 a month, or $309 a month billed annually.

The Teachable free plan is gone, replaced by a 7-day free trial. The short timeframe makes it harder to assess the platform before you commit to a paid plan.

Updates raised pricing on some plan tiers and lowered prices on others, depending on whether you sign up for annual or monthly billing. You’ll pay more for a month-to-month subscription for Builder or Growth, but less for the entry-level Starter plan.

Teachable advertises 22% off for annual billing.

What Teachable actually costs (three tiers)

Plan prices are only part of your total cost. Payment processing fees and transaction fees add to what you’ll pay to run your programs and cut into your profits.

The table below breaks down the estimated monthly cost of the Starter, Builder, and Growth plans for revenue of $1,000, $5,000, and $20,000, including subscription price, estimated payment processing fees, and transaction fees when applicable.

We’ve estimated processing fees, based on Teachable Payments at 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction, calculated using a price of $100 for each product you sell. Actual costs will vary based on the price of your courses, coaching services, ebooks, podcasts, or how-to guides.

For example, your monthly payment processing bill will be lower if you sell two $500 courses instead of ten $100 courses, because the $0.30 fee applies to each sale. If you accept international payments, your actual processing fees rise to 3.9% + $0.30.

Notice how transaction fees make the Starter plan less affordable as your revenue grows. At $5,000 in monthly revenue, Builder costs about half of what you’d pay for Starter and a third at $20,000.

Processing fees come on top of the plan price: 2.9% + 30¢ for U.S. cards (used in the estimates above), 3.9% + 30¢ for international cards, 3.49% + 49¢ for U.S. PayPal and 4.99% + 49¢ for international PayPal.

Hidden costs and add-ons a working creator needs

On its surface, Teachable pricing looks straightforward. But costs can quickly add up if you exceed your plan’s pre-set usage caps or add third-party integrations to operate your business more efficiently.

Many of Teachable’s business tools are fairly basic. Email marketing is built in, but to run sales funnels or manage leads in a CRM, you’ll have to connect and pay for a third-party tool.

The same goes for automation. Connecting Teachable to your other apps through Zapier starts at $19.99 a month for Zapier’s Professional plan.

Under Teachable’s current usage policy, students you add outside its own checkout, such as manual uploads and imports, are free up to 100 per school. After that, Teachable charges $0.50 a month for each additional student.

Video storage on every plan is capped at 1 TB. Above that, Teachable charges $15 a month for each additional terabyte.

What you get for the money

All Teachable plans include course builder tools, multimedia lessons, video hosting with 1 TB of storage, integrated checkout, mobile apps, and the built-in Teachable Payments gateway. Every plan also allows you to sell memberships and use its AI tools to generate course curriculum and quizzes.

The beginner-friendly drag-and-drop course builder allows users to set up an online course without technical or web-development skills. You can add video, text, quizzes, and other lesson content within the same platform. Design changes go through the page builder and CSS snippets, so a highly custom look takes more work than on an open site builder.

Teachable combines course hosting with built-in checkout, payment processing, tax handling, upsells and cart recovery. Students can pay in their local currency.

Native iOS and Android apps allow students to access and pay for courses on their mobile device. Automatic sync saves a student's progress, so they can pick up later on a laptop or tablet.

Creators can sell courses, coaching services, digital downloads and memberships.

Teachable’s AI tools can generate course outlines, curriculum content and quizzes on every plan. Growth adds free subtitles and translations.

Where it falls short

Support is the complaint that comes up most in recent reviews. Real-time support is listed only on the Growth plan and above.

“Your customer service is the worst I’ve experienced for a platform I pay this much for every month,” Paul P. wrote in a January 2026 Trustpilot review. “Waiting until the next day is unacceptable.”

Other creators point to price increases, usage fees and plan changes made with little notice.

The June 2025 change also moved every school onto a new plan automatically. By default, Basic went to Builder, Pro to Growth and Pro+ to Advanced, and a school over its new plan’s product or student limits went to a bigger one. New prices applied from the first renewal on or after June 29, 2025.

Given the limits on customization, marketing tools and support, compare a couple of other platforms before you commit.

Who Teachable is for, and who should skip it

Deciding if Teachable offers good value for your business depends on your current budget, business goals, how sophisticated your design requirements are, and where and how you plan to market your products.

If you’re looking for a user-friendly platform where you can quickly set up courses and other learning programs and you're comfortable with basic marketing and customization tools, Teachable can be a good fit.

If you want advanced design flexibility or business management tools like a built-in CRM to manage your sales funnel, you may want to consider another solution.

Is Teachable worth it in 2026

For self-paced courses, with checkout, sales tax and student apps handled for you, Teachable still does the job, and Builder is the plan to pick. Go in with your eyes open, though. The June 2025 overhaul retired every old plan and moved each school onto a new one, and slow support is the complaint that comes up most in recent reviews. If a price you can count on and fast help matter to your business, compare a couple of other platforms before you commit.

How Heartbeat compares

Teachable is built around the course. Heartbeat is built around the community: members talk to each other in channels, meet at live events and take courses together, with cohort courses, memberships and checkout in the same place.

Heartbeat is the better fit when the community is what people pay for: a membership, a group program or a cohort course where members learn from each other. It includes a member app, and with Scale your own branded app in the App Store and Google Play. And Heartbeat offers a 14-day free trial, with no card required to start, so you have plenty of time to evaluate it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Teachable cost?

Teachable offers three primary plans: Starter, Builder and Growth, priced at $39, $89, and $189 when billed monthly, and $29, $69, and $139 per month, billed annually. It adds a 7.5% transaction fee to all sales on the Starter plan and charges transaction fees on other plans that don’t use Teachable Payments. Additional fees apply for breaching usage limits.

Can you really make money on Teachable?

Yes. Individual creators and businesses sell online courses, digital downloads, membership programs, and coaching sessions. Businesses also use the platform for certificate-based training programs. However, the plan you choose, price of your products, integrations you add, and transaction and payment processing fees determine your net earnings.

Is Teachable better than Udemy?

Teachable is better than Udemy if you want to use a hosted platform to build your store, create a brand, set pricing, design marketing outreach, and own your student data. Udemy is a global marketplace that handles marketing, often discounts course prices, and takes a bigger cut of your sales.

Is there a free alternative to Teachable?

While Teachable replaced its free plan with a 7-day trial, Payhip still offers free forever plans with unlimited products, full features, and a 5% transaction fee in addition to PayPal or Stripe’s processing fee. You can also use a non-specialized platform like Systeme.io.

What does Teachable’s product limit include?

Teachable’s product limit counts everything you publish and offer for sale: full and mini courses, coaching sessions, audio and video files, ebooks, templates and spreadsheets. Bundles count too. Go over a limit and Teachable charges usage fees, and it can stop your school from taking new customers if you don’t upgrade or reach an agreement within 15 days.
