Digital Products to Sell in 2026: 30 Ideas, What They Earn, and Where to Sell Them
Thirty digital products with real prices and sales, where to sell them, and what nine platforms leave you from a $50 sale.
Guides
The most popular digital products to sell are spreadsheet templates, written guides, courses and workshops, memberships and communities, and coaching programs. Templates and guides are quick to make and sell for less, while courses, memberships, and coaching take more work but command higher prices.
A digital product is the right one for you if it checks all the boxes:
- People are already buying it (or intend to buy it).
- You know the topic well enough.
- You’re willing to work on it.
If you're still choosing between business models, start with our list of online business ideas.

How much you can make selling digital products
Here are some numbers about how much content creators usually make selling digital products:
| Format | Typical price | What sellers have earned |
|---|---|---|
| One-off downloads (templates, presets, ebooks) | $5 to $37 median76 | Median of about $4,400 per product, lifetime |
| Online courses | $137 average | A gut health masterclass has sold 238 copies at $16777 |
| Paid newsletters | $10 a month average | Amy Suto brings in about $267,000 a year |
| Masterminds | $350 a month median | Karyn Greenstreet charges $350 a month for 4 months |
| Group coaching | About $1,070 median per program | 8 members at $1,000 brings in $8,000 per cohort |
| 1:1 coaching | $244 average per session | Tres Heffron sells 3-month packages at $1,250 |
In our analysis of 74 Gumroad products with public sales counts, half earned between about $1,200 and $18,000 in total. Expertise made the biggest difference: TheICUDoctor’s ICU Pocket Notes has sold 4,674 copies at $50, while generic Canva templates earned a median of about $840.78
What you can earn depends mostly on the format and how well you can promote it.
Here’s the difference at the same $40 price and 10 new buyers a month, assuming 5% of members cancel each month (Cautious assumption: the membership platform Steady reports 2 to 3% monthly churn on average).79
| One-off product | Membership | |
|---|---|---|
| Month 1 | $400 | $400 |
| Month 12 | $400 | about $3,700 (92 members) |
| Month 24 | $400 | about $5,700 (142 members) |
By month 24, the membership earns more in one month than the median one-off product earned in its lifetime.
Where to sell digital products online
Digital products can be sold through a marketplace or in your own storefront, or via a community management platform.
| Option | Best for | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplaces | Beginners with no audience who want to sell low-priced templates | Crowded, low prices, the platform owns the buyer |
| Your own storefront | Sellers with an audience or email list | You bring almost all the traffic |
| Course and membership platforms | Courses, communities, memberships, recurring offers | Monthly fees on most plans |
Digital product marketplaces
Marketplaces like Etsy or Creative Market put your product in front of people already searching. Etsy alone has over 90 million active buyers.80
Since every product seller is targeting the same buyers, competition gets fierce. In our check of Notion templates, most Etsy listings sold for about $8 to $23 on sale. According to one Etsy seller:81 “selling digital products on Etsy is a job.”
The number of repeat buyers will likely be lower because the platform owns the customer relationship, and taking customers off the platform is often against its policies.82 If you want to own that channel, go for your own storefront or a membership platform.
Your own online storefront
Create your own storefront (without actually owning a site) if you already own an audience on social media, an email list, a blog, or a private Slack/WhatsApp community.
You can use Gumroad, Payhip, Lemon Squeezy, and Stan Store. They let you create a checkout page you control. You set the price, collect buyer emails, get product reviews, and can sell bundles or upsells.
Single Notion templates on Gumroad mostly sold for about $18 to $99 in our check, two to four times the typical Etsy price.
On your own storefront, you would have to bring most of the traffic yourself. The products show up on the platform’s search engine, so you can get a few buyers from that channel too.
Course and membership platforms
If you have premium products people pay for monthly, membership platforms are the right choice. Examples include Kajabi, Teachable, Thinkific, Patreon, and Substack.
You can create lessons (in videos), set up recurring billing, create accountability groups, and build landing pages for subscriptions and templates.
Repeat subscriptions are common on courses and membership platforms. Members often stay for each other as much as for the content. That’s why memberships can be more profitable than other digital products. As conversion strategist Ross O’Lochlainn puts it:83
“People don't want to switch programs. They want to find their person and stick with them.”
Fees on a $50 sale: 9 platforms compared
If you sell a $50 product, you can keep anywhere from $42.75 to $48.25, depending on the platform you sell it on and the plan you’ve chosen.
Platforms typically charge in two ways:
- Percentage of every sale (which is cheaper when you’re starting out or have a low number of sales).
- Monthly fee with little or no cut of each sale (which is better when you make a high number of sales).
Here are some platforms and their fees, using a $50 product as an example:
| Platform | Plan | Monthly fee | Platform fee | Processing | You keep on $50 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Etsy828485 | Standard | $0 | 6.5% + $0.20 listing | 3% + $0.25 | $44.80 |
| Gumroad8687 | Single plan (direct sale) | $0 | 10% + $0.50 | 2.9% + $0.30 | $42.75 |
| Payhip88 | Free Forever | $0 | 5% | 2.9% + $0.30 | $45.75 |
| Stan Store89 | Creator | $29 | 0% | 2.9% + $0.30 | $48.25 |
| Teachable90 | Starter | $39 | 7.5% | 2.9% + $0.30 | $44.50 |
| Thinkific91 | Start | $109 | 0% | 2.9% + $0.30 | $48.25 |
| Kajabi92 | Basic | $179 | 0% | 2.9% + $0.30 | $48.25 |
| Patreon93 | Standard (new creators) | $0 | 10% | 2.9% + $0.30 | $43.25 |
| Substack94 | Paid subscriptions | $0 | 10% | 2.9% + $0.30 + 0.7% billing | $42.90 |
Assumes a US buyer paying by card.95 The seller has bought the cheapest plan, set up monthly billing, and no sales tax is applied. Monthly fees aren’t included in “You keep.” Prices checked October 20, 2026. Check live pricing before deciding.

How to start selling digital products this week
Good news: you don’t need a big audience to start selling digital products. Here’s all you need to do:
1. Pick a topic people already ask you about
If you’re posting content somewhere or talk about a particular topic, people might already bring you some questions at work or on your social media. Since information is available for almost free due to AI, people would want to see your point of view and method.
As one creator with $300,000+ in product sales puts it, “Remember, people don’t buy digital products for the information. They buy them for the transformation.”96
2. Choose a product that fits your time
Don’t start something that you can’t finish.
Want a first sale this month? Start with a template, spreadsheet, strategy call, checklist, or mini-course.
Want income that builds over time? Plan a membership or group program.
Either way, build on your own experience, since that’s the hardest thing to copy. As Lilach Bullock notes, “AI is excellent at structural transformation IF you’ve written the original yourself.”97
3. Validate your product idea before you build
Message 8 to 10 people who fit your buyer (ideally within your audience). Describe the offer in a short message, and ask if they’d pay for it. Better if you can ask them what price range would be suitable. Author Jeff Goins suggests aiming for 10 yeses before moving forward.98
4. Pick a platform
Don’t have any audience? Start on a marketplace like Etsy. Meanwhile, start creating free content on social media for building the audience that you own.
If you already have some followers, use your own storefront. For a course, community, or membership, use a community management platform. Make sure you do the math before selecting the platform because flat monthly fees get cheaper per sale as you grow.
5. Launch to your current audience
Your biggest supporters will buy your products faster than a cold audience. Reach out to your email list, social media followers, clients, colleagues, and even family friends.
Tell them what you’re going to launch, before you spend anything on ads. When Nathan Barry launched his first ebook, he sent it to a pre-launch list of 795 people and made over $12,000 in the first 24 hours.99100 He later found that email subscribers were 15 times as valuable as his Twitter followers.101
Where Heartbeat fits
Most of the products on this list sell better with a group around them. A template sells once. A template club, a cohort course or a group coaching program keeps people coming back because they know each other. Heartbeat is built for that second kind of product: a paid community with courses, live events and group chat in one place, and its own branded app. If you're moving from one-off downloads to something people pay for monthly, start a 14-day free trial.
Frequently asked questions
What are the top 10 digital products to sell?
The top ten evergreen digital products are Notion templates, Canva designs, spreadsheets, resume templates, ebooks, self-paced courses, cohort courses, paid communities, paid newsletters, and group coaching programs.
How much can I realistically make selling digital products?
Most one-off products earn a few thousand dollars over their lifetime. In our analysis of 74 Gumroad products with public sales counts, the median earned an estimated $4,400 in total. Recurring offers can earn more: paid newsletters average $10 a month per subscriber, and group coaching programs charge a median of about $1,070.
Do I need an LLC to sell digital products?
Not necessarily. In the US, you’re automatically a sole proprietor if you sell without registering another business type, which works well for testing an idea.102 An LLC separates your personal assets from the business. Rules and taxes vary by state, so check with an accountant before you decide.
What digital products are in high demand in 2026?
Avoid selling products that AI can easily replicate or make better than you. Niche templates, cohort-based courses, paid communities, and paid newsletters can all stand out because they offer expert-backed knowledge.
Can I sell digital products without an audience?
Yes. Marketplaces like Etsy bring you traffic, though competition keeps prices low. Build an email list while you sell there.
How long does it take to create a digital product?
It can take anywhere from a weekend to a few months to create and launch a digital product. For a reusable template or checklist, a weekend is enough. An ebook or workbook may take one to two weeks, and a full course a month or more.
Should I sell one-off products or memberships?
If you want short-term gains with minimal time investment, go with one-off products. If you want compounding income, memberships are the way to go. The membership platform Steady reports 2 to 3% monthly churn, with members staying on average for three years.
